Animal Reiki

Animal Reiki Healing

What would we do without our beloved animal companions? I for one would be completely lost. Having had an animal at my side for most of my life, both dogs and cats and worked with them too as a Holistic Dog Groomer, I have been witness to a whole range of different emotions and issues. From happy, well balanced animals to those suffering with grief, stress, anxiety, fear and depression.

If only I had known then what I know now. Reiki is loved by all animals, dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds and fish to name but a few, and has been proven to be beneficial for animals with physical, emotional or mental issues as well as behavioural issues that have an emotional basis. Reiki for animals is now recognised across the world as being a viable complimentary therapy and works well alongside contemporary veterinary medicine.* This calm and soothing therapy helps stimulate the animals ability to heal itself and can be given anywhere at any time. It is suitable for animals in any situation. Whether they are your pet, in foster care or a rescue environment.

As with all initial Reiki sessions, we start with a complimentary telephone consultation to assess your animal companions needs and to establish a basis from which to move forward. For example, whether an In-Person or Distance Healing appointment is more suitable. We will also complete my Client Information Form prior to booking your first appointment. This will provide details as to why you are seeking Reiki, a brief case history about your animal and any diagnosis given by a Vet. Each animal is treated as an individual and the treatment they receive will be based on their specific needs. Also, as animals are very sensitive to energy, they can pick up on the anxiety and stress their humans may be experiencing. As a result it is sometimes necessary to offer Reiki to both the human and the animal to help resolve the problem.

It is important to note that Animal Reiki is not diagnostic and is not a substitute for a consultation from a Vet or Specialist but works well alongside conventional medicine.

What does an Animal Reiki session involve?

A Reiki session for an animal usually takes place in their own home or surroundings familiar to them and generally lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. A place where they feel relaxed and comfortable and away from noise or any distraction is best.

If working in-person, I enter their space quietly and allow them to come to me in their own time. It is not necessary for any physical contact to be made and a hands off approach is not unusual. I will also ask the animals human to make themselves comfortable and together we will perform a few gentle breathing exercises to help bring their body into a state of relaxation before commencing the Reiki. After drawing down the Reiki source, I channel the energy through my body and send this through my hands to your animal. Working intuitively looking for blockages and changes within their aura. Helping them to release the stuck energy as I work from crown to root. During a session the removal of these blockages can, in some cases, be clearly shown by the animal smacking their lips, lip licking, stretching, yawning, passing wind or twitching. In addition, it is not unknown for this clearing to be expressed by myself and can materialise as yawning or burping. However, this does not happen in all cases.

Once the Reiki session has ended, we will go over my findings and discuss how best to move forward. A single session can make a difference but a course of regular treatments might be more beneficial. Depending on the needs of the animal, these could be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. Whatever treatment plan we agree to and implement, it will be regularly reviewed and open to change subject to the requirements of the animal, its human or carer.
